Research Production: Key Laboratory has focused on nanotechnology and nanomaterials, involving the synthesis and assembly of nanomaterials, dispersion and treatment technology, high surface area materials, nanobiomedical materials, composites of nanoinorganic and polymer materials, nanocatalysts, and so on. It already stands in the forefront on the theory concerning formation and growth of nanoparticles, interfacial chemistry of and morphology control of nanomaterials in China. Meanwhile, it catches up with the international advanced level on the development of manufacture for nanomaterials, dispersion and treatment technology.  
Remarks: Key Laboratory for Ultrafine Materials of Ministry of Education was awarded on the basis of Laboratory of Ultrafine Materials Reaction Engineering of State Education Commission.

Key Laboratory has 27 research members, including 18 professors, 3 associate professors, and 70% of them are below 45 years old. On one hand, it is qualified to educate and award students at Master degree and Ph.D degree, whom supervised by 10 doctor tutors and 16 graduates tutors respectively, in the fields of Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Biochemical Engineering. On the other hand, it has fulfilled many projects, exactly, 3 "863" projects, 15 projects supported by National Natural Foundation of China (including key projects), 7 key projects of State, 6 international projects, and more than 20 projects supported by Shanghai city. In the past several years, key Laboratory has published more than 300 papers with high quality on domestic and international journals, acquired 20 Chinese patents, and are granted 8 awards of Technical Advancement on the provincial or ministry level. As a result of these efforts, Key Laboratory is forming to be characteristic of interdisciplines, combinations with synthesis and application, technics and engineering, theory and development, common technology and product development, research and transform.

Regarding the development of Key Laboratory, it established 6 branches: Synthesis and Assembly of Nanomaterials, Manufacture Engineering of Nanomaterials, Science and Technology of Nanocatalysts, Biomedical Nanomaterials, Functional Composites of Nanomaterials and Characterization of Nanomaterials. Key Laboratory has laboratories with the area of 2500 m2 and modern instruments such as Transmission Electronic Microscope, Electrophoresis Analyzer, Laser Scattering Particle Size Analyzer, Thermal Analyzer, and Ultraviolet Spectroscope, amounted to 152 million yuan RMB.

Key Laboratory warmly hopes to cooperate with other units in various forms to benefit the research and development of nanomaterials in China.
