2004-11-11 13:41 In recent years, Jordan has attracted foreign investment by making use of its geographical advantages and the preferential arrangements from Jordan- US Free Trade Agreement. At present, there are 10 Qualifying Industrial Zones, 19 Free Zones and Aqaba Special Economic Zones in Jordan. In accordance with the Jordan- US Free Trade Agreement, the products produced in the Qualifying Industrial Zones could, under certain conditions, be exported to the US exempt from customs duty or quotas. The investment environment in Jordan has drawn the attention of the textile, clothes, and household electronic industries from China. And some Chinese enterprises had already had a share in the Jordan market. By the end of 2003, the total of Chinese contract workers in Jordan reached 8292, working in 19 manufactories in the Qualifying Industrial Zones. The number of Chinese contract workers took up 58% of the total foreign workers in the Qualifying Industrial Zones. Ministry of Commerce is planning, in the beginning of 2005, to organize enterprises to make an inspection tour of relevant industrial zones in Jordan and have accordant communication with local government and enterprises there. All the superior enterprises of the textile industry, light industry, ho usehold electronic industry, building materials industry, and pharmaceutical industry are welcomed to participate in the inspection. |
