Location
The Durban campus of the University of KwaZulu-Natal is situated in the city of Durban, in the Province of KwaZulu-Natal, on the subtropical Indian Ocean coast of South Africa. The Province is the traditional home of the Zulu kingdom, and is rich in cultural heritage and historical lore. It contains the sites of many historic battles, including several dating from the Anglo-Zulu and Anglo-Boer Wars. A number of well-known game reserves are easily accessible from Durban.

The city of Durban is a thriving industrial centre, and the Port of Durban is the largest and busiest on the African continent. In keeping with its reputation as the most popular holiday destination in the country, there are many tourist attractions in the city, including the uShaka Marine World complex, the Point Waterfront development, and the Gateway and Pavilion shopping complexes. Several scenic attractions, such as the Valley of the Thousand Hills and Zulu cultural villages, are within a short drive from the city.
