近年来伊朗的石化工业发展较快，非石油产品的生产和出口不断增长。伊朗今后将借助石油和天然气的资源优势，更加重视石化下游产品的开发与生产，逐步提高非石油产品的出口比例。按照国家石化工业发展规划，到2015年，伊朗石化产品的产能将达到6500万吨，产值将超过200亿美元，其中聚合物和塑料产品的产能将达到1100万吨。而目前伊朗的聚合物产量只有80万吨，塑料制品的加工能力也只有100万吨/年。由此可见，正在起步阶段的伊朗塑料加工业将随着未来几年大规模石化装置的陆续投产，而步入一个高速增长的时期，其塑料工业的生产能力将由目前占世界总量的0.5%提高到 3.8%。

伊朗国际塑料橡胶工业展每年举办一次。2005年12月第三届伊朗国际塑料橡胶工业展取得的圆满的成功。此届展会打破了同类展会规模的最高纪录，创下了展会面积德黑兰世界贸易中心参展商情况：04年伊朗当地企业：350家参与，国外参展企业：220家。其中机械设备厂家占57%，成品及半成品厂家占32%，产品原材料厂家10%，服务配套厂家占1%。
