Details: The Asia-Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering (APCChE) is the confederation of chemical engineering groups in Asian and Asia-Pacific region, whose objective is to build up and keep association between the chemical engineering groups, bring benefit to human beings through chemical engineering; to organize the International Chemical Engineering Meeting with other (continental) confederations; to promote the exchange and share of information and practice concerning chemical engineering; to stimulate the communication of chemical engineers from different countries within the confederation. The Asia-Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering Meeting is an important activity of APCChE, which is held every two years. As the 11th session, the meeting is well renowned both in Asia-Pacific region and chemical engineering circles across the world. China, as its 13th member, took part in this confederation in 2004.

The 10th Asian Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering Meeting, with the sustainable development technology of human beings as its theme, was held in Kitakyushu International Conference Centre in Japan. The meeting consisted of mainly three parts: the report in the meeting, special seminars and wall papers.

The report concerned three aspects: the chemical missions in pioneering new chemical engineering technology, the challenge faced by chemical engineers—to make a sustainable future come true through green technology in this ever-developing Asia-Pacific region, chemical engineering education—a global standard and a strategy for future. The special seminars covered 14 other aspects, such as biological technology, energy resource, extra-critical fluid, security, electron, material and exterior science, chemical reaction engineering, fluid and particle process, system information and simulation technology, physical characteristics and physical chemistry, separation process, and calorific engineering. The 11th session was held in Malaysia in 2006, and the 12th in China. According to the institution, the deputy chairman of the 11th session and the chairman of the 12th session were sent successively by Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China. Through APCChE, we are working to strengthen the communication and cooperation with the outside, so as to promote the progress and development of Chinese chemical engineering science and technology.

The Asia Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineers (APCChE) was founded in 1975 through the efforts of Professor T. Mizushima of Kyoto University, Japan. It was formed to provide a focus for various non-profit societies, associations and institutions working in the field of Chemical Engineering in the Asian Pacific region. APPChE comprises of member Societies in 13 countries and regions, People's Republic of China, Korea, Japan , New Zealand, Thailand, India, Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Institution of Chemical Engineers (UK) are corresponding members

The APPChE Secretariat is located in Australia at the Institution of Engineers Australia

The establishment of APPChE was the third world chemical engineering region to be established following the InterAmerican and European Confederations. Prior to the founding of APCChE the “World” of chemical engineering was mainly through two confederations covering the Americas and Europe. Asia, Africa and much of Eastern Europe was not included. International chemical engineering conferences were mainly hosted in Europe and the Americas. Africa, the Middle East and Russia are still not covered and this is under active consideration by the World Chemical Engineering Council (WCEC). The WCEC was formed in Melbourne at the 6 th World Congress of Chemical Engineering in 2001 and it includes many worldwide institutions and societies of chemical engineering as well as the Confederations.

The first APCChE Steering Committee meeting was held in Bankok in 1975 at which a draft of the APPChE Constitution (Statutes) was accepted. The objectives of APCChE are:
To establish and maintain relations between organizations working in the field of Chemical Engineering, and to promote human welfare through progress of Chemical Engineering.
To organize international congresses of Chemical Engineering in cooperation with other confederations.
To promote the exchange of information and sharing of experience connected with Chemical Engineering.
To promote the interchange of chemical engineers in the countries belonging to the Confederation.
To promote the development and improvement of chemical engineering education in member countries

The first APCChE Congress was held in Indonesia in 1978, followed by congresses in the Phillipines 2 nd (1981), Thailand 3 rd (1984), Singapore 4 th 1987, Malaysia 5 th (1990), Australia 6 th (1993), Taiwan 7 th (1996), Korea 8 th (1999), New Zealand 9 th (2002), Japan 10 th (2004)and Malaysia 11 th (2006).
