China plays an important role in the global agricultural and chemical market. China is one of the largest agrochemical producers and consumers in the world, and more importantly, a large agrochemical importer. These agrochemicals are mainly applied in rice, cotton, corn, fruits and vegetables.
It is estimated that in 2004, China's total market consumption for pesticides was 290,000 tons, 43,200 tons of fungicides and 64,200 tons of herbicides. Of which 6% are imported from foreign countries. A survey from CCPIA – China Crop Protection Industry Association shows that the annual increase of demand for agrochemicals will be 3-4% before 2015.
